MEN IN BLACK 3
Action/Comedy/Sci-Fi, Rated M, 101mins.
Starring: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement.

Synopsis:
In Men in Black 3, Agents J [Will Smith] and K [Tommy Lee Jones] are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when Ks life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K [Josh Brolin] to save his partner, the agency and the future of humankind.

Review:
Will Smiths’ Agent J gets sent back in time to save the world from an evil alien and stuff, It’s a sequel and a prequel all wrapped up in one. 10 years since MIB2 the ‘Men in Black’ team are back for another crack, and despite agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) being retired and as Bruce Willis would say ‘Getting too old for this shit!’, he doesn’t get to be on screen long as K’s younger version Josh Brolin takes over.

My major drawcard was Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), who’s unfortunately more amusing than funny, possibly due to him being barely recognisable under the make-up for the evil one armed alien Boris the Animal. His stand out moment is when hippies tell him to ‘make love not war’ and he replies with ‘I prefer to do both’ followed by manic laughter. Most of the great comedic dialogue moments come from ‘Griffin’ Michael Stuhlbarg a being with powers that allow him to see almost every possible scenario in time playing out at once. Josh Brolin is the real stand out, playing the young Tommy Lee Jones from the sixties, he seems to channel Tommy Lee Jones in every way almost being more Tommy than Tommy.

Men in Black 3 is a fun film with some good laughs, the aliens and set-design are great as usual and the fun banter between Agent J and K (Young & Old) is still there. The films biggest flaw is that it takes a while to get into the groove and things seem to lumber along until Agent J goes back in time. Maybe Agent K is getting too old for this shit.

Rating out of 5 stars: ★★★
